About the Engineering Team

The Engineering team executes the product strategy to address the challenge of accelerating improvements in student outcomes. Our users are education leaders in schools, districts, and nonprofits who use our app, Inno™, to make data-driven decisions, develop strategic plans, and collaborate with their teams to implement their plans. Similarly, the Engineering team wants to leverage product usage and other data to analyze and improve the current user experience, use emerging
technologies to guide users throughout product implementation, and onboard new segments of users to create the supporting ecosystem our education leaders need to thrive. The ideal Data Engineer enjoys learning, is a quality leader, shares knowledge with team members, is proactive and anticipates challenges, provides innovative solutions, and works collaboratively across the company to enable our product-led growth strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Build high quality data pipelines from multiple sources to make data useful, reliable, and timely
  • Create and/or use tools to monitor the health of the data pipelines as well as maintain data integrity
  • Integrate with other applications to extract data in an efficient manner at predetermined cadences
  • Transform and enrich extracted data to prepare data for destinations
  • Efficiently load data into destination, such as a data warehouse
  • Continuously find opportunities to improve data quality, reliability, and utility
  • Document and train the team as needed to ensure knowledge is shared across the team
  • Collaborate with the Engineering, Data, and Customer Success teams to develop features that improve the user experience
  • Collaborate with the team in ideation, planning, development, and launch of product features
  • Participate in user research, as needed, to understand the needs of customers and end-users
  • Provide insights and feedback on product strategy and roadmap, as requested
  • Ensure the success of the product post-launch by reviewing product analytics and qualitative data to understand the impact of product changes for our users and for the company
  • Build internal processes to improve the functioning of the team, as requested
  • Implement quality best practices in their code, collaboration, and release process
  • Engage with the education, social impact, and tech community, stay abreast of best practices and emerging technology, and develop new skills to improve Innovare’s products

Minimum
Qualifications

B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
2 years of software development experience, certification as a data engineer from a reputable bootcamp, or equivalent technical work experience in a collaborative environment
2 years of Big Data experience (Data Lakes, Data Pipelines, ETL, and Data Warehouses) using Google Cloud Data Pipeline Services, such as but not limited to PubSub, StackDriver, Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and AutoML
Integration experience using multiple extraction methods, such as APIs and scripts
Proficient with various authentication methods, such as but not limited to SSO, 2FA, Token, Password and authentication protocols, such as SSL/TLS, Kerberos
Proficient in, but not limited to the following: Javascript, PHP, Python, Git, VIM, VSCode, Linux, Unix,SQL, Google Apps Script, Google Sheets
Experience with Agile Kanban or Scrum Methodologies and productivity apps (JIRA, Asana, Trello, etc.)
Problem-solver who manages risks that arise while communicating those risks appropriately to the team
Motivated to grow personally and professionally with particular excitement to learn new technologies
Self-disciplined to stay focused on value-add activities and meet deadlines
Highly organized and structured in approach, methods, and project management
Detail-oriented with a focus on product quality and a great user experience
Able to thrive in a highly collaborative environment at a macro and micro-level (strategic planning, pair programming, code reviews, and brainstorming)
Exceptional focus on the quality of their work
Familiar with state of the art tools, processes, and methods in data engineering
Proficient in English and Spanish

Preferred
Qualifications

  • Google Cloud Certified Professional Data Engineer
  • Understanding of data used in the education sector, EdTech work experience, and highly motivated to contribute to positive social impact
  • Machine Learning feature development experience
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and Webhooks
  • Knowledge of designing and implementing a full-stack cloud application
  • Experience with product analytics tools, such as Segment, Mixpanel, and FullStory
  • Understanding of data privacy laws and cybersecurity threats
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time
  • Aspirations to become a leader within the Engineering team, and beyond
