About the Role

As the Director of Finance, you will partner with managers across the Company to support the business operations. You will drive financial planning, as well as extract key insights from the business, to support strategic planning. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that puts a premium on teamwork. You will lead the finance, accounting, and business planning functions as a key member of the organization’s leadership team. The best candidate for this position would be an individual that is comfortable getting into the details necessary to prepare financial statements but at the same time
can see the big picture and provide forecasting and business analysis to help the management team make sound financial decisions. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

This position is tasked with overseeing all financial activities, reporting on revenue, training colleagues, budgeting, disbursing funds to departments, managing risk, implementing policies, ensuring compliance and data integrity, and improving financial processes.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing business partnerships: Work closely with the function leaders to develop financial forecasts and operational goals as well as apply business judgment and financial insights to assist with decision making
  • Financial planning: You will be the primary point of contact for all things finance and will lead budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and Human Resource alignments
  • Business Analysis: This involves connecting financial insights to operational results and the external environment
  • Lead special projects, including new initiatives, to ensure alignment in cross-functional projects
  • Innovate: We will push the boundaries beyond traditional forecasting. Be creative, adaptive, and eager to learn new technical skill sets
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly financial statements
  • Prepares the annual budgets, management reports which track budget to actual performance, and makes budget presentations
  • to the boards/committees, as needed
  • Prepares cash flow forecasts and advises management on decisions regarding funding availability
  • Oversees the daily accounting, fiscal management, and accounts payable/receivable functions
  • Responsible for tracking and verifying payments required under the organization's various programs and major contracts
  • Oversees preparation of tax compliance including payroll tax filings, annual federal income tax returns, and year-end reporting
  • Oversees payroll accuracy and compensation changes
  • Oversees internal controls to ensure checks and balances are in place and working properly
  • Maintains banking relationships
  • Provides training and mentorship to employees, if needed, to build capacity for the growth of the company

Minimum
Qualifications

BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, or Economics
CPA Certification
4+ years in EdTech or SaaS Finance Experience in a Venture Backed Company
Proven experience as a Financial Director
Extensive understanding of financial trends both within the company and general market patterns
Proficient user of financial software (Divvy, QuickBooks, etc.)
Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skill
Able to manage, guide, and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
Experience in Bookkeeping Services
Solid knowledge of financial statistics and accounting principles
Knowledgeable in audit principle
Ability to travel to conference and client meetings up to 30% of the time

Preferred
Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA required, MBA preferred
  • 2-5 years of public accounting experience
  • Experience leading complex workstreams
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-level financial planning systems
  • Technology and/or Education experience
  • 5 years controller experience with a small to medium-sized company
  • Strong computer skills including accounting software and Google Suite Apps
  • Strong communication skills. Confident in making presentations to internal leadership as well as a Board of Directors, community stakeholder groups, and business leaders
  • Successful track record of working collaboratively and conservative stewardship of financial resources.
