Software Engineering Manager

About the Role
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new engineering staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Mentor members of the Engineering team.

- Leads and coordinates various engineering functions and operations including quality assurance, testing, and research and development of the product roadmap
- Leads the technical design of solutions, solution architecture, and technology innovation projects, such as proof of concepts, pilots, and other assigned projects.

- Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
- Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy, ensuring code quality and standards using tools and review processes
- Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
- Cultivate and maintains trust, comfort, camaraderie, and compassion amongst a diverse team of software developers
- Prepares and executes departmental budget.
- Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve the product.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications
Experience with but not limited to the following: React, Node, Express, Postgres, HTML/CSS, Chart libraries, API, Google Cloud, Git, VSCode
Flexibility, resilience, and strong collaborative skills; able to work independently and be agile in a fast-changing environment
Desire to engage in personal and professional growth through provided and independently sought out talent development opportunities


Preferred
Qualifications
- Ideally: we are looking for a candidate who has k-12 education experience, particularly in data, teaching or leadership
- Master’s degree preferred
- Strong knowledge of continuous improvement and other best practices in education
- Startup work experience
- Big Tech work experience
- Active member of startup and tech organizations or groups
